Lightweight Design

Commenced in 2021, this character residential project by Drawing Works prioritised design for privacy and orientation. The site’s gentle slope from the street provided an opportunity to create a family living space that flowed through to a backyard deck and swimming pool. The thoughtful layout ensured privacy from neighbouring properties while embracing the traditional external character of the surrounding built environment.

Bush House

​Remote setting in cattle grazing country, North Queensland. 180-degree mountain views from the East to West. The brief was to maximise the views and provide a beautiful and functional family home on this rural site. The house is perched on the north-facing section of the site - adjacent the original homestead. Designed to complement rather than supersede the existing facilities. A distinctive Australian and tropical design response with lightweight construction and durable cladding materials. Considerations for bushfire conditions and the demands of living remotely have been incorporated.

Worker's Cottage

​A unique site overlooking the river mouth at Cleveland Bay. The project responds to character residential zoning while offering a modern lifestyle in a grand setting. Queenslander and Worker's Cottage design elements brought together in a two-storey design solution. A large breezeway entry with direct line-of-sight to the broad river and surrounds. Upper storey living - maximising the outdoor qualities and orientation.

New Verandah

​A rural residential setting and an established single-storey block home. This project involved the provision of new outdoor living space and the opportunity to complete the original design intent to allow the East facing bedroom spaces exterior access. The design is informed by the original building form and follows the roof lines providing for seamless extension and integration with the untouched interior. A separated outdoor room connects to the master bedroom suite, providing for a private space under the tall eucalypt trees.
